At Dunsville Primary School, we teach Geography following the National Curriculum programme of study. We want our pupils to be interested and curious about the world that we live in.
We aim to help pupils to develop their geographical skills and knowledge through studying place, people and both natural & human environments. Geography is taught through a topic based approach and encourages pupils to question and guide their learning through varied learning experiences and research.
Geography allows pupils to gain an insight into their place in the local, national and international environment and how people and places change across the globe. Pupils are encouraged to use first-hand experiences, practical work, research and questioning to discuss and compare a range of topics and issues regarding the worlds around us.
Our Nursery and Reception classes have been learning about where they live and the houses that they live in. Pupils in years 1 and 2 have been using maps to find out about our local area and the human and physical features of our environment.
Year 6 took part in a debate about deforestation. The children split into 2 teams, discussing and planning their ideas before debating their views.
