Welcome to Quartz Class Page
My name is Miss Barnett and I am going to be your teacher in year 5 in September. Our class will be Quartz Class. This will be my first year at Dunsville Primary School and I am really looking forward to becoming a part of it.
I love teaching all subjects, but science is one of my favourites as I like completing experiments to find out new things. My other favourite subjects are art and maths because I think they are really fun! In year 5, our topics will be the Vikings, Ancient Greece and Mountains.
When I’m at home, I like to keep busy and enjoy dancing and swimming. I also like colouring, baking and watching films. I have a rabbit called George and a dog called Snoopy, who I like to take on long walks.
Let’s have a look at what’s going on in Quartz class!
Things to remember!
Homework - children will receive homework every Monday which will need to be handed in the following Monday.
Reading - as part of their homework, it is important that the children try to read as much as possible. They need to make sure that they bring their reading books and blue reading diaries every day.
Times tables - another important part of homework is to try and practice times tables. Children should know these off by heart.
PE - this term we will have PE on a Thursday and Friday. Children need to bring their PE fit for every session.
Here you can find all the information about what we are learning about throughout the year.
March 2017 - Our Visit to Murton Park
As part of our topic this term we had a visit to Murton Park. Our class was shown around the Viking village by Leaf (our guide) and he showed us how to complete all the different tasks. Throughout the day we completed four different activities.
Pottery - we made our own oil light that we decorated with sticks.
Viking board game - using fabric and stones we made the very first portable gaming device.
Viking Argos catalogue - looking at different Viking artefacts we created an Argos catalogue.
Battle training - Leaf taught us how to hold a spear and shield so that we could practice our battle formation.
March 2017 - Book Week
For our book week this year, we focused on books by Roald Dahl. Our class voted to read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We completed lots of different activities throughout the week including chocolate room descriptions, designing a chocolate bar and finding the hometown of the golden ticket winners.
On Friday, we all got to dress up as our favourite book characters.
March 2017 - Road Safety
We had a visit from a HGV this week. After a road safety talk, we got to go inside the lorry.
December 2016 - Christmas Party!
To end the half term in style, Year 5 and 6 had a fantastic Christmas party. All the children got dressed up in their party outfits and spent the afternoon playing lots of party games.
Before the party, the children had time to decorate their tables for a chance to win a prize. Here’s what they came up with.
November 2016 - Too infinity and beyond
During science, we have been learning about space. We have completed lots of research about the different planets and even had a go at making our own solar system using fruit!
Pic of science
As part of our science topic we had a trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester. From newsletter.
September 2016 - Groovy Greeks
Last term, our topic was Groovy Greeks. We spent lots of time in class learning about the Ancient Greeks, where they lived and what they did.
